Advantages of Solenoid Valves in Automation Systems
With the further upgrading of automation systems, the advantages of solenoid valves in these systems are becoming increasingly apparent. Here are a few of these advantages:
(1) External leakage is completely prevented, internal leakage is easily controlled, and operation is safe.
External and internal leakage are critical safety concerns. Other automatic control valves typically have a valve stem extending outwards, controlled by electric or hydraulic actuators to rotate or move the valve core. This requires addressing the long-term problem of external leakage from the moving seal of the valve stem; only solenoid valves use electromagnetic force acting on an iron core sealed within a magnetic isolation sleeve, eliminating the need for a dynamic seal, thus easily preventing external leakage. Electric valves have difficulty controlling torque, easily leading to internal leakage, or even breaking the valve stem head; the structure of solenoid valves makes it easy to control internal leakage, even reducing it to zero. Therefore, solenoid valves are particularly safe to use, especially for corrosive, toxic, or high/low-temperature media.
(2) Fast response, low power consumption, and compact size.
Solenoid valves can have response times as short as a few milliseconds, and even pilot-operated solenoid valves can respond within tens of milliseconds. Due to their self-contained circuit, they are more responsive than other automatic control valves. Properly designed solenoid valve coils consume very little power, making them energy-efficient products; they can also be designed to only require a trigger to activate and automatically maintain the valve position, consuming no power during normal operation. Solenoid valves are small in size, saving space and being lightweight and aesthetically pleasing.
(3) Simple system, easy connection to computers, and low cost.
Solenoid valves themselves have a simple structure and low price, making them easier to install and maintain compared to other types of actuators such as control valves. More significantly, the resulting automatic control system is much simpler and much less expensive. Because solenoid valves are controlled by switching signals, they are very easy to connect to industrial control computers. In today's era of widespread computer use and significantly reduced prices, the advantages of solenoid valves are even more pronounced.
